Here’s the gold…

December 10, 2008

renewed

We’d like to declare this week Solidarity Week. A week in which every Sri Lankan has the opportunity to join hands in Solidarity, irrespective of their gender or sexuality. As long as we can celebrate diversity in every aspect of our lives, we as a nation have no need to be divided the way we have been for so many years. And we on the solidarity team are striving to harbour the spirit of togetherness in one of those areas of diversity during this week which ultimately lead up to the Solidarity Gaymes this Saturday. Maybe we can join in this bandwagon of celebrations where we are right now, at work or home or on the road or at a cafe… wherever you are reading this, look around you and celebrate the fact that not everything around is the same. That makes you unique as well!

When we said celebration, we didn’t quite mean party in the streets. we meant celebrate in your heart and then celebrate outside. We hope we haven’t disappointed you but before we party we need to come together in solidarity to do that. But Saturday will indeed be a day of celebration and that is a promise.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue & purple… come out and show the world your true colours people!

Come out with us and party. Come out and play.

Call for Volunteers

October 22, 2008

Let’s start with a big thank you to everyone who has mailed and left inquiries on the blog and FB about volunteering. We will be needing a whole bunch of you for many sub-committees to work with us as well as for and on the day of the event. A wonderful lady by the name of Lino will be in charge of all volunteers for the event, so please contact her via e-mail (solidaritygaymes2008@gmail.com) and leave your contact details and she’ll let you know how you can help.

In case you wanted to know where and how you can help, here is a tentative list of areas that you maybe interested in -

1. Event organizing

2. Event on-ground team

3. Ceremony & entertainment

4. Funding & sponsorship

5. Advertising & publicity

6. Decor

7. Food & Beverages

8. Welcome team/ushers

There maybe a lot of little things in between and in addition to the main areas I have listed above, but if you’re eager to help, we’re happy to have you. So please do call Lino and come on board with us, to make this ground-breaking event a reality.

Sri Lanka will see the dawn of its first ever Solidarity Games this December. Held for the LGBTIQ community, their friends and family, the event plans to be a groundbreaking one. Details of the event date, venue and a list of events/sports will be posted shortly. In the meanwhile, pass on the word, get out your trainers and get ready to come out and play!

If you would like to volunteer or need any further information, please leave a comment on this blog or e-mail us at solidaritygaymes2008@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you.
